And today marks the final few hours that I'll be spending in this lovely Australian city....finally, I'll be back in SG hopefully latest by 2000 tml....well, the stay here has been great and my host, whom by utmost coincidence my cousin too, has been very welcoming and hospitable to us. Great food too...O, how I would miss the savoury pies and tantalising, mouth-watering steaks...not to mention the fresh pork and seafood too.

Throughout my 1 week stay here in Brisbane, I've experienced almost what living here on a daily basis would be like...public transportation, road names and city zones remain no longer shrouded in mystery as when I had taken my first step out of the Brisbane international airport. Despite both our countries having basked in the glory of the glorious British Empire who had brought us such wonderful delights as the English language, the GCE O Levels and A Levels and O, who could forget, wonderful, delicious teas....well, despite that, i have taken a particular interest in how their public transportation systems worked in comparison to that which we are so accustomed to at home.

Firstly, buses. the massive fuel gargling monsters that roam the streets of cities worldwide. Despite the bus stations placed at huge distances apart, some even as long as 3km, it still remains, in my opinion, one of the fastest and most comfortable ways to travel around and into the city itself. The many services that run through the city do indeed make one spoilt for choice. Only one thing the traveler must note, each bus has it's own allocated stop which leads to some places, especially within the city to have one street littered with bus stations. One more thing that I would definitely love to see implemented in SG is a lane entirely devoted for the driving of pulic buses...cuts down loads of traveling time, especially traveling in and out of the city, during peak hours. That's exactly what they have got here...bus lanes and even whole separate roads just for buses! Ever try getting around by bus through Bugis and Katong areas before and you'll understand why I'd love to see such a system implemented...

Of course, as with other self-respecting first world city, there has to be a railway going throughout Brisbane too. Now, the trains here, other than the fact that it is existent, does not serve it's purpose well as a railway ought to. The trains here travel at speeds easily overtaken by a camel lugging a basket full of cement bricks through the loosest of sands in a sandstorm...they make even snails feel as if they were the "Flash". In fact, they SHOULD indeed replace the trains with snails! Other than moving at rather disgustingly slow speeds, another thing that comes to mind when I talk (type) about the trains are the seats...made hard as a rock and wrapped again in a thin layer of fabric, these seats were probably made with people with no backbone in mind. Brisbane's train seats are to comfortable is like what water is to oil. And so, I still stand by with what I have mentioned earlier...the bus is definitely still the most efficient way to get around Brisbane.

Not much to say about the City cabs though....same as every other city....

Oh yeah, one more thing....ticketing. Very efficient and traveler friendly. Unlike what we use in SG, where every time a visitor to our fine city want to commute by bus or MRT, he/she will have to continuously dig his/her pockets for loose change. Here, traveling by public transportation is very much simpler. Just head down to any ticketing station located in train stations and other places around the city or just purchase one from the bus operator. For just a few dollars spent on your part, you'll get to enjoy the many benefits of whatever ticket you have purchased. A single way trip costs just merely above AUS$1 while other types like the off-peak daily, costing only AUS$5+, which entitles it's holder unlimited travel by bus, rail or ferry between the times of 1100 ~1530 and 1900~2100 and the daily ticket which gives unlimited travel by either three of the public transportation provided for as long as they remain operational throughout the duration of 24hours frim the ticket's purchase...very visitor friendly....

Another thing to note about Aussies are their friendly and benign attitude towards everyone. From what I've heard from others, Chewbacca and Poh, I've experienced something rather on the contary to their experiences...one incident to note is the massive discount the sales lady gave me on a pair of board shorts..from AUS$79.90 to AUS$35.90...not only have I been left with nothing but good impressions of the people in Australia but also in most of the other countries which I have visited..and trust me, that is no small number either....

Furthermore, since summer is prevalent in the southern hemisphere this time of year, Flies are in supply where water is in demand. Whatever bullshit this may occur to you as balance of nature, flies here are very much like PAP members in SG...once they come, they NEVER disappear! only way to rid yourself of a permanent flying pet is to try shooting it off with a 50. caliber machine gun where it has made it's home on you...well, ok...maybe that way a wee bit exaggerating.......but yes...they ARE that resilient!

Well, it's getting late over here right now, +10GMT, which makes it around 2140 now, so I guess I'll stop here and get started on my packing which includes on how the hell am I going to pack my brand new pair of Rollerblade GT4 aggressive in-line skates into my ridiculously minuscule trolley bag. Of course the next thing to worry about is my enlistment into national service which will be just 16 hours after I arrive on home soil......

And so I shall leave you with a quote that caught my eye in Brisbane's MoMA..."Prostitution is the rental of the body, marriage is the sale of it."

4th day in aussie-land and counting.....

hours here pass really slow....to give an example on how slowly time passes here, I was in my cuz's car and we were driving around Mt. Tambourine (yes, they have an mountain named afer a musical instrument) and I sorta drifted off to sleep...note, it was 1300 then....when I woke up from my nap after what seemed to me like hours, I took a quick glance at the clock and on it, the bright, gleaming crystal display read 1330! They say Australia's not fun cause shops all close early and her night life's non existent....but who needs night life when 12 hours feel as long as 24 hours!

Anyways, the long hours spending doing virtually nothing at all has made me realise that I've been getting rather good discounts on products that I never even considered asking for one in the first place....

Examples:

New pair of specs for NS
original price: S$95 for frame alone
my price: S$85 including new lens

A bottle of Adidas eau de toilette
original price: S$12.50
price at John Little sale@Expo: S$12
my price: $9

A pair of board shorts
original price: AUS$79.90
my price: AUS$35.90

If anyone requires anything here from aussieland, you'd best be telling me before I leave on wednesday....

This day makrs hence,
third day whence,
my home country left,
to come to foreign land.
The Sun here's hot as fires hell,
but not as so, where the PAP dwell.
the weather here, is as dry as dry permits,
sweat that refuses to be emancipated from mine pores.
The task of which mine neighbour beset upon mine goodly self,
I hath thus completed her divine task with none questions showered,
with but 4 days the heavens hath bestowed upon me remaining.
The hour passes slowly as with the people here,
dragging the days ever so longer.
But O how I dread mine return upon familiar soil,
for which I have to hang up mine identity,
relieve mine loved ones from mine heart,
and put on uniform, to be one like the rest.

bugger that.

True stories!

P.S. click on the pictures to enlarge
Just some funny pictures I found whilst surfing the web one fine day after Econs paper 2....

Kinda sexist this one, methinks...
When being plainly obvious is just not enough...
When computers rebel....

And we thought our math exams were tough...

This one sorta explains itself...

Hmmm...so time must be directionally proportional to arrow length.....

This one's for Nigel!

Been a while since I've just worked out so today, I guess was spent rather fruitfully...Feels good to perspire out all the grease that I've been chucking into my body like a black hole over the past few days "studying"...haha...well, since I'm going into the army early, guess I should be working out more and getting myself fitter than I already am (which no more than a chocolate munching monkey)....

Anyways, out of randomness, I have noticed how people can be easily classified....

Firstly, there'd be those whom I call "within-the-line-colourers" basically people who colour within the lines...this type of person is one who follows the rules, as written in the book, concienciously....terribly hesitant to break any single rule, the "WTLC" is one who would attempt, to the best of his ability, to uphold the ideals of society but is however too soft-spoken and lily-livered himself to actually attempt to enforce it upon those who does not agree with him...horrified of the very idea of sparking controversy, his worst nightmare would be having to spend the rest of his life watching films directed by Michael Moore, Martin Durkin and the like...Being a conformist doesn't always mean that the "WTLC" is condemmed to spend his entire pathetic life slaving under the whips of others...in fact, because they are to apt at following the law and such, many "WTLCs" have risen to power throughout history...famous examples I would include will be Neville Chamberlain (Brit Prime Minister from 1937~1940 who thought Hitler was actually a nice and peace-loving fellow) and mainly several conservative party members...

Next, there are those whom I proudly call the "out-of-line-colourers"...the "OOLC" is in everyway opposite from the "WTLC"...contented with the idea that it is he who forms society and not vice versa, the "OOTC" is essentially the rebellious sort who would enthusiastically stand up for any forms of controversy, no matter how outragous they may sound, as long as they question the very foundation of modern society...he prefers to question athority rather than to follow it...he doesn't think of anything thing of impossible...rather, everything and anything is possible...aliens, time travel, big foot and faries are not simply stories of fancy for the "OOTC"...they are open possibilities that stimulates his imagination...the "OOTC" is most threatened when he feels that his imagination is stifled and when having to follow a structured life...structure is to the "OOTC" like what salt is to an open wound...anarchy is the best kind of government...famous examples of "OOTCs" from the past include Alexander the Great (ex-Macedonian King and Lord of Asia), Hitler (lover of peace and jews and the furer of the Third Reich) and Neopolean Bonaparte (The short French fuck who at one point of time ruled almost all of Europe)...

so which side do you belong to? the stiff-necked, conformists or the imaginative, fun loving, questioning, rebels...it's your choice....

Post-College Education

right then so I've settled with what I'm gonna do after A levels. Looking forward to doing product design over at Lasalle...either that or over at UNSW....good thing about this is that I could always use my O level results instead to get in and so foundation year...that would mean a total of 4 years in Lasalle before I get my degree which is basically the same as most universites....
Stole this off chew's blog....how the they came up with the Bejing Olympics 2008 logo...

Random Rants For The Weekend

An urban skater's worse nightmare...these new bumps that they install at the ends of practically every pavement in Singapore...they hate us.....that hate us....

Enlistment date confirmed

Words fail me as I attempt to express the wave of emotions that swept over me as I read out the date that has been printed in bold black (well not exactly balck, more like greyish-black) letters upon the white sheet of paper...

13 DEC 2007 (THU) AT 1.00PM
BASIC MILITARY TRAINING CENTRE SCHOOL 2

Which means that as of that date and time, I am officially listed as an NSman and no longer a civilian...unless of course I fall sick, wake up late, am still in Australia, decide to skip it and no longer return to S'pore...but heck, NS, here I come...bugger....

Well, anyone who's of the same date and school tell me...at least I know I won't be alone....

Didn't go to school today. why?

Because I didn't feel like going.
also because I kinda overslept but that's besides the point...School's becoming a chore..life's becoming a chore...My fuel's drained and alternative sources are scarce and extremely difficult to come by....desperately hunting for a new driving force every single day...balancing myself over a thin line between sanity and whatever it's opposite is...many times have I fallen over but have so far managed to always find a net below me waiting to break my fall and catapult me back up...but one day I'll simply lack the energy to find that safety net there and whatever happens after might simple be irreversible..From vast green fields with clear blue skies to a dark, lightless room...A dark, lightless room..maybe that might not be so bad after all...seems quite inviting...a nice room all to myself..no one to intrude in my activites anymore...no one to shed false tears and no one to express fake or guilt-riden concern over me...But for now...let me just continue on this line till I reach the end the end of my existance...but don't bother worrying...I'm not that stupid to trip myself....plus I've got this stick to help me balence...so I guess I should be fine....so don't blame yourself if I might suddenly appear cold or irritable towards you...it's just me...

Well on a much brighter note....MJC's investiture ytd...caught up & met couple of old friends..plus I've successfully managed to promote runway to their council..hope they'll get back to me soon...

and here we see a prime example of that all so famous MJC disipline...a councillor, who despite having been invested out still takes pride in her duty to look into the gents to ensure that MJC students are not misbehaving or vandalising the toilets in any way. Great job..We at TPJC salute your commitment and perserverence in your one term in office...Good job MJC 4th council...

The Legacy of TPJC 21st student Council

One term of service come and gone in the blink of an eye...on the 8th of MAy 2007, we, the 21st invested out and the 22nd was invested in...though we may never get the chance to work together on any school project again, our memories will always be there for us to forever treasure...

Fuck...only now does the feeling really sink in...our term of service is over...damn! with Bryan's words still resounding in my head..and fuck! I'm crying now..damnit....I love you guys! Our legacy shall live on in the annals of TPJC history, and our heads, forever!

All Alone by Johann Pang

When the darkness falls around you
you really start to think
Where the hell is everyone
who promised everything

How come they're all missing
They've all disappeared
Suddenly the only one
around you is yourself

There ain't anyone who can help you
Ain't anyone who cares
Ain't anyone who understands
Ain't anyone who's there

Cause no one really gives a shit

Cause no one gives a damn
They're only superficial
devils acting like they're saints

well I'm sorry for being selfish
I'm sorry for being rude
but there's a time when you'll realise
in life, you're all alone

You can't rely on anyone
not even on your friends
Even family can abandon you
leaving you for death

Anything that you need done
You'll do it on your own
Friends, family, anyone
won't bother till your down

It's your life thay always say
you make what you want it be
as for us don't bother knocking
we have our lives to lead

Cause no one really gives a shit
Cause no one gives a damn
They're only superficial
devils acting like they're saints

well I'm sorry for being selfish
I'm sorry for being rude
but there's a time when you'll realise
in life, you're all alone

And now to everyone close to me
a message I will leave
In case you think that I need help
the next time you see me

Fuck you and goodbye
I can manage on my own
no need to come calling
when I'm already gone

And when you finally realise
that all those years I've cared
don't you come crying
cause you weren't there for me

Cause no one really gives a shit
Cause no one gives a damn
They're only superficial
devils acting like they're saints

well I'm sorry for being selfish
I'm sorry for being rude
but there's a time when you'll realise
in life, you're all alone

well I'm sorry for being selfish
I'm sorry for being rude
but there's a time when you'll realise
in life, you're all alone

This song I dedicate to all those out there who are feeling torn up inside and no one to whom you can turn to in your troubled times of need. All those who feel that after all they've done for their friends, they don't really care about you. All those whom friends and family have abandoned them. All those who are simply all alone in this world.

Went to watch Phantom of the Opera ytd with my family.
Note to self: Front row seats are awesome! esp when u get to look below the stage and watch the orchestra play too! and every single expression on the actors/actresses faces can be clearly seen. Not to mention you get to feel the intensity of the special effects which those poor buggers up in the foyer & circle seats can't experience.
The actor playing the phantom was awesome but my mom's friend said that the previous actor who did the previous one was better...not sure bout that since I didn't watch it. Went down to Astons at katong for dinner....had a steak with mash & pasta salad...bought food home for dad coz he went over to funan after the play...looking for a new laptop and possibly a new Mac =)

ODAC Orientation Camp

2 days-1 night of fun and an extremely late night. After the art trip to NUS came back and went straight to this 24 hour orientation camp. Luckily I'm a senior so it was quite slack for me...
First night we just played a couple of night games like candle wars where the objective was to use your candle to burn your opponent's piece of string and cabbage captain's ball where basically the ball is substituted with a cabbage...cleaning up after the game was hell. then at night around 2 am was the night walk...then rock climbing and flying fox the next day.

P.S. Saba gets sedated on her on fragrance and is addicted to it but, she's still cool...

After the camp rushed down to Clarke Quay to catch Drift net which was an example of performance art done by a local artist. Loved it! Lightings and sounds gave me loads of new ideas for my coursework. Pretty excited to get that doen now... =)
